Free Communities – a past-time. Some are like zombies too.

Broke Kid - The Power of Free

Broke Kid - The Power of Free

nWarriors

What started as a free InvisionFree community under the name of DSWarriors, nWarriors has come a long way throughout many explosions and database blowups, template errors, and internal fueds. Now days, it’s the surviving group of misfits that remain. While the community has potential to grow, it keeps its friends that it has close. Just recently, the nWarriors community moved to BrokeKid.com. Even tho they are under a new domain, nearly all of the members of the nWarriors community still call it nW (or n-dub).

It’s a community that has lived on since the first inception of DSWarriors on August 14th, 2005.

Graphic Force

Graphic Force

Graphic Force

I ventured throughthe  ZetaBoards directory in search of a new place to hang, and stumbled upon a graphic community by the name of, guess what, Graphic Force — most commonly referred to as G-Force. It’s owner Archangel, formerly Syndicate and Oblivion, has strived to make it the best graphic community around with heavy focuses on a strong community, a wealth of resources, and frequent competitions.

Here recently, it was attacked by an exploit through a chat system shared between many ZB communities. Such is the life of a hacker and the discoveries of exploits. Archangel’s focus is not lost however, the core supporters of the community have been taking it with a grain of salt. After all, the majority of the losses were statistics. The community will regenerate, like a zombie. This hacker must not have seen a reliable resource on zombies, the hit film Zombieland, to know Rule #2, the Double-tap.

Obama struggling for approval ratings?

Obama delivers his Address to the Nation

Obama delivers his Address to the Nation

Address to the Nation… thats me and you

With year one in the books for President Obama, he delivered his first address to the nation on Wednesday, Jan. 27th, 2010. He discussed issues such as the economy, health care reform, job creation, and how the original focus he campaigned for is not gone.

For some the campaign is a lost cause and all the promises Obama had made have all but disappeared since he took office last year. It started with the stimulus package and the AIG bailout with the “Too Big to Fail” clause. The government does have a transparency for the stimulus package, which can be seen here. We also must ask ourselves “Can we trust the government that this website displays accurate data?

Wall Street up, Main Street down

We see the Dow Jones rise steadily, and the job market decline. Businesses layoff their “expendables” and keep the necessary. Those who become laid off go out job hunting and in most occasions, businesses aren’t hiring. The inexperienced worker or student without a degree under his belt must find a job, however those that do hire, require experience in certain fields. As of late, it depends on what part of the country a person is in to see how much the economy affects it. Some business may start hiring inexperienced workers on the west coast, but not the east coast. It’s all a matter of the state’s health and how it trickles down to the city a business is located in.

Is it smart to over extend you core qualified workers until more are found? Or is it a better idea to spend money on training new workers?

Some corporations have an answer, but the commonwealth must have a different answer…

With Love,

Locke

Life is full of surprises – never doubt it.

The heat, the job, the time…

I started my job at Contractor Millwork Services, Inc. for the 3rd summer in a row. It’s not all bad as I make it out to be. Any job sucks in the end. The shop is like working in an oven. It usually gets to about 104°F inside. If everyone drinks enough water, they’ll be fine. There are perks to working there after all. The hours are from 6:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday through Thursday. I have a 3 day weekend. :)

I’m at a loss for information

I’ve been wondering about my new girlfriend will obtain U.S. Citizenship. I haven’t done much research on the subject, but I know I will have to eventually. She says she’s eligible for dual-citizenship as well. I find that kind of nifty, but I still require a passport for anywhere I travel.

I learn something new everyday

I attempted the guitar again. The C Major scale still hasn’t left my mind on the instrument, yet the correct fingerings have. My girlfriend is the only one in her family whose first name is of French origin. Her father is French, and he named her whilst her mother named the rest of the family. I have a new found interest in getting TCLEOSE certified, which means Texas Peace Officer status. I have a craving for watching all the old classic Disney movies. The IHOP in Weatherford, Texas officially has the worst service according to the Broke Kids of this blog. Denny’s in Weatherford, Texas severely whips IHOP at service and is now the best place to chill and play a game of chess and drink a gallon of coffee.

The vehicle issue

I bought a 1986 Chevy Silverado C10 1/2 ton truck yesterday. I walked in and paid cash for it. It doesn’t run good, and doesn’t start without help. I haven’t inspected or registered it again yet, as I need to fix it up and may cost an additional $400 dollars to do so. I have faith in Chevy’s though. I bet it won’t fail me once it gets running again. It’s got a few dents in the passenger side, has a broken tail light on the passenger side, and also needs new fuses, relays, alternator, plugs, plug wires, resistor plugs, battery, vacuum hoses, brakes, coils, and lastly, a new transmission is possible. It’s not as bad as it seems though. Its a good truck once it gets going.

It’s July 4th

Happy Independence Day… go shoot some fireworks if you don’t a burn ban in effect. :)

Good night everyone

A few thoughts about the sharing of information

So it’s 4:44 in the morning and I can’t sleep. Tons of stuff is flying around above, like the meaning of digital. The fact that data is carried as an electronic pulse and that pulse either represents a high state or a low state.

Then I’m just laying there, pondering the fact that everything is here right now in existence and everyone is alive at this current moment- granted, most are sound asleep in my part of the globe. The internet and its ability to allow people to share thoughts and share information all depends on digital. With analog it was a continuous string of information, but now anyone anywhere in the world can copy anything and share everything. It’s all based on 1’s and 0’s, or binary code. The fact that binary is a series of ONs and OFFs, based on our human genes- (this is like the programming behind the body, the DNA, controlling anything from fat cells to cancer to mental disorders)… so I guess what appalls me is that the Internet is something that we just now recently created, it took this long for humans to discover, and is such a game changer for earth life… and all along the key to the Internet was hidden in the very fabric of our physical bodies.

The next game changer for life as you know it? Instead of sharing simply digital information, we’ll be able to share our time. Being able to go so fast and get to a destination in the world so quick, that you can travel around the world easily in about an hour. “I visited like 200 customers today, made some good money…” <– that kind of travel. This device and the mechanism that drives it will once again change the face of human progress and we know it just like the internet is doing. The internet is now a stable platform, it’s not constantly changing like it used to. It now includes the mainstream plus everything else including /b/. We all know what we can expect out of the internet from now on. It didn’t even save the economy like it did in 2002.

***Exclusive Flashforward***

“Time to get up and go, I says.” …zipipzap…

*robotic voice* “Please step into curly’s oxygen chamber. Turn off all forms of electronics, because it’s time to chill.”

Why thanks, Clio. Warrior, Locke, come on inside!” curly colourfully commands.

***RL***

Just like the internet has multiplied exponentially our speed in which we are increasing our human knowledge, the first device to share time will change the game again. It sure would be sweet if we get there in the next 50 years. Then there’s some who might say turning ON and OFF our genes themselves will be the game changer… that could be part of it, or it.

A small word of congrats to Mike for winning a great chess match in the middle of Denny’s at 1am in the morning.

BrokeKid News Update: Our head-to-head record in chess (1 Yahoo! chess game online, 1 on a genuine, marble board in a restaurant) now stands at 1-1.

No quick fix – simply done though, what about her?

I haven’t posted because up to now everything has been ok.  It’s not particularly bad. It’s just a mental dilemma that could tie ones inner thoughts tightly enough to halt much other thoughts from occuring. It’s weird. I’m weird. On the upside to this however,  I’m not really depressed. It’s just an overload of decisions and the like. I blame the old society immediately post-World War II. I blame them because people’s attitudes as a nation were better, and folks cared more about one another. Now days, it’s who can make the most money by suing his or her neighbor, or how much of the U.S. goods can be outsourced to China. It’s pathetic and nothing can be done about it. We live in a capitalist world where the phrase “Made in U.S.A.” means nothing and where people gripe constantly about becoming socialists. This nation has more hippocrates than honest men and women. Tangents are fun.

So I’ve applied for a job working as County Dispatcher and a Jailer for the county. Both pay the same and both require the same hours. I’m betting that if I get hired, I’ll be working 12 hour graveyard shift. Then after my first paycheck, I’m rolling out to find a new vehicle, preferrably an old truck that I won’t need to bother with emissions. It’s not too bad. The county has good benefits, and I’ll be working full time. Soon after my job is stable and I’m settled in, I’m moving out of the house to go down the road. Also… theres a new girl I like. Different story, different paragraph.

Well, this all would happen after about a month of working. I’d like to ask her out, but I’m a bit scared of doing so. Not so much that I fear the dreaded ‘no’. It’s moreso that I fear of breaking up the current way things are currently. It is what it is. Another thing: If I live out on my own, would I be able to commit? I’d be working 12 hour nights, and still attending school on other days. This leaves how much time for awesomeness? A minutes. I’m willing to take on the challenge of life, I’m just not sure I’m capable for all of it at the same time. Who knows though? She might cut me some slack since I’d be working my tail off. If you were to ask me, I’d prefer the guy to show a great bit of maturity to know what needs to be done and where the money needs to go (and make sure that to live, one needs to work a lot). But thats my subtle opinion. ;)

Wish me luck, as I am the Broke Kid!

The Broke Kid versus The Waitress

It’s been a month since I last wrote. Typically, I would write a new post every time something new happens in my life. It’s been that long since my last incident, if you will. Usually there’s never a dull moment, but let’s just say I was given a vacation from the craziness. :)

So anyway, my whopping 6 viewers, you’re probably wanting me to get to the chase. Okies… I took a stroll into IHOP at a location that will remain anonymous…except the fact that its in Texas. I’ll give you that much. A friend of mine works there and she said that I ‘ll end up giving her a tip for $5 because she’ll be the best waitress ever. If you’re as mean as I am, then you just thought “What kind of service is he getting?!” or “Woah, aren’t they just friends?” Well, I honestly thought the latter first, then the other. ;)

I decided to go along with this “game”, and I started to be really picky and/or stingy. She brings me my coffee like I asked and puts a bowl of creamer down next to the pitcher. It’s all going well. I asked for the Split Decision with scrambled eggs, and pancakes included. I’m a big coffee drinker :) . I ran out of sugar really fast. So I asked her for more :P . She brings me a handful of packets (about 6). I laughed (couldn’t help it) and said that’d last me about 2 cups. So she takes the container that holds all sweetener and sugar and refills it. My plan is mainly to get her to lose composure. :D Then I ran out of coffee. She brings me my food and I ask her for more coffee. Her first remark “You drank it already?” and I replied “Yeah, I gotta stay awake to see this awesome service.” Her smile afterwards basically said “Keep trying…”, so I did. I decided to test her logic. This is probably something I’ve thought too far into as usual but, I’ll explain it anyway.

Giving back change (a brief explanation)

If I’m supposed to tip someone and all I have (presumably) is a $20 dollar bill, I’m supposed to tip them with the change. In the above scenario, the food costs roughly $7-8 dollars. This gives me $12 in change. Now, if I wanted to tip someone $3 but they give me a ten dollar bill and two 1 dollar bills, I’ll leave the 2 dollars instead of three. I believe the waiter or waitress must assume that the patrons have no other change or money to tip with when giving change back. If the person gave me back one 5 dollar bill and seven 1 dollar bills, I’d have left 4 dollars in change instead of the proposed 3 dollars because this person is smart and deserves a little extra.

Onwards to the original story!

She amounts up to her service for the full $5 dollars for a tip. It cost me 7 bucks for the meal, I gave her one 20 dollar bill. She hands me back one 10 dollar bill and three 1 dollar bills. Oh no! I ended up leaving her $3 for a tip instead because of my theory above. Sure enough, I explained this to her and she understood. The theory is basic head games with the consumer. The patron is more likely to give a higher tip if there is more bills handed back as change. Even though he put 5 bucks on the table in one dollar bills, the patron most likely didn’t feel as much at loss if he or she had to put one 5 dollar bill down.

Ever since, my friend has averaged about $25 more each week in tips than before I explained this to her. :)

Lessons learned!

PS- This can backfire, as one basic rule floats transparently – be careful to those who handle your food.
