But Goddamn, unless that has like a 5970 (best graphics card out), or the price included a monitor, it's definitely overpriced.
I would assume it has Windows 7 on it, open the start menu and right click on "Computer" and go to properties. Click "Windows Experience Index" and then on the right, click "View detailed performance and system information." Tell me what it says under each category.

A quick check on HP's website and I can make that PC for around $1k. And I know I could make it around $800 or less if I were building it myself. Soo...in short, parents shouldn't be allowed to buy computers xP
Though on the upside, it's a capable gaming PC. Yes it is a good PC to answer your question. It's not good for the price, but hey, whadya gonna do.
I really only know how to measure "how good" in terms of gaming performance, and I am sure you'll be able to max out most games you plan on playing, unless you plan to play Crysis xD But it's certainly at least twice as powerful as a 360.

Mine too =/ And my PC only has 4.
I'd like to upgrade it to 8, which would be cheap, but I'm gonna just wait until I decide to do a big upgrade to Core i7 and DDR3 so I don't have as much RAM to get rid of.
And yeah IAS, that's because i7 PCs use RAM in groups of 3, so it'll be 3, 6, or 12 GB. And 3 would be far too little, so you don't see that often. But 4 GB is a good amount for a PC that uses groups of 2 (see: anything not i7), because the next highest step would be 8 GB. Most people think that's overkill xD

Except that the i5 comes in both quad and dual core, where the i3 is only dual core, plus the i5 includes turboboost on some of their models, where (if I'm not mistaken) the i3 does not provide the feature.

Yeah, like I said, lower end version xD Lower not just meaning clock speed, but core number. But it's the same architecture, so a dual core i3 is superior to a Core2Duo of the same speed.
Core i3:Corei7::Core2Duo:Core2Quad, approximately. And I consider Core2Duos lower end versions of Core2Quads xP That's all I'm saying.
Goddamn this makes me wanna upgrade my PC so bad >.< Core2Duo at 4GHz with 4 GB of RAM is just not enough.
